ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — To pursue some of the most elusive game fish in the world, up to 25 competitor boats can enter the Cheeca Lodge All American Backcountry Tournament set for Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 12-14, in Islamorada.

Anglers compete in the sport fishing capital of the world for trophies and prizes for catching and releasing five tournament species — snook, redfish, permit, bonefish and tarpon. This year’s event honors a participating team of two veteran soldiers to commemorate the proximate Veteran’s Day holiday.

Proceeds from the 2015 tournament benefit the Guides Trust Foundation, an organization committed to assisting Florida Keys fishing guides in need, helping them meet their financial obligations in times of crisis or injury, as well as providing scholarship awards to local students.

A welcome reception and beachside banquet, rules meeting and silent auction kick off the weekend Thursday, Nov. 12, at Cheeca Lodge, the tournament’s social event headquarters at mile marker 82 oceanside.

Fishing is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, based from nearby World Wide Sportsman. The prestigious fishing event culminates Saturday with a cocktail reception, early dinner and awards presentation.

Awards are to be given to the individual grand champion and runner-up, grand champion team and runner-up team and champions in the fly-, artificial- and general-tackle divisions.
