Rodrigo Salles writes, “One cast. That’s the rule. But this situation was not ideal for the options I had. The angle I had for the cast wasn’t good enough for a decent fruit imitation delivery. And the brush was close to the surface, and a super tight loop was necessary to enter the zone in order to escape the hanging branches. It was getting more fun and technical — love it. With sunlight suddenly breaking through the trees, I realized there were four big matrinxãs in the shadows. I tied on a streamer. Only a sidearm cast could deliver the fly to the zone under the trees, and I knew any mistake would be costly. I made a sidearm cast, putting the fly two feet in front of where the first fish were. Then I saw a flash moving up towards the fly and the line suddenly cutting downstream. Fish on.”
