This is Fly Magazine’s Issue 69 features a first hand account of the massive California fires this summer. Michael Wier writes, “Many of the mega fires this summer have affected California’s trout fisheries in one way or another. The SOS (Status of Salmonids) report titled “Fish in Hot Water” that California Trout released last year states that wild fire is one of the number one threats to California’s native salmonids. A catastrophic fire in the wrong spot could completely wipe out an entire population of native trout. In fact, the report states that 45% of our native salmonids will be extinct in the next 50 years if current trends persist.”
