TOPSAIL ISLAND, N.C. – The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center has filed a lawsuit in federal court asking the State of North Carolina to stop authorizing gill net fishing in violation of the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

The European Commission is proposing a ban on commercial bluefin tuna fishing to save the fish from possible extinction, but several countries, one being Japan, strongly oppose the move. France is in favor of the ban but for a limited time only. Bluefin tuna stocks have dropped 80 per cent in the last few decades.
