It’s been almost eight years since Ted Williams died, yet every Memorial Day I can’t help but think of “The Kid.”

I guess it’s just the time of year that conjures up images of Williams — baseball season getting into full swing, fishing season heating up, and today’s Memorial Day holiday honoring our lost soldiers.

While Williams didn’t die in the military, he sacrificed plenty when interrupting his Hall of Fame baseball career with a pair of stints as a Marine Corps pilot.
